Replacing 4,000 diesel generators in Singapore can cut greenhouse gases by 400,000 tonnes a year, the equivalent of removing 12% of Singapore’s car population
SINGAPORE, October 16, 2023 – Ampd Energy, has partnered with Aver Asia, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation, in a move aimed at displacing thousands of diesel generators and reducing carbon emissions at construction sites across Singapore.
Despite pandemic constraints, Ampd Energy have successfully deployed over 40 units of its battery energy storage systems across 25 construction sites in Singapore, continuing to ramp up its business in Singapore through Aver.
Ampd’s battery energy storage system called Enertainer, is a next-generation alternative to diesel generators which are used in many construction sites because they are cheaper to run. These generators are, however, highly pollutive, releasing not just greenhouse gases into the atmosphere but also excessive noise.
The Enertainer, on the other hand, is a plug-and-play, fully automated, fully electric battery system with high output electronics that can power the most demanding construction tasks including moving heavy equipment like cranes, hoists and welders. It is much cleaner to operate with carbon emissions up to 85% lower and noise levels 32 times quieter.
So far, with its 40 Enertainers deployed in Singapore, it is helping property developers and construction companies eliminate over 3,800 tonnes of carbon emissions, or the equivalent of taking 12,000 cars off the road.
Ampd Energy believes that if it replaces 4,000 equivalent-sized generators in Singapore, it can eliminate 400,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year, comparable to the pollution by 12% of Singapore’s car population.
According to statistics from Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority, the building sector accounts for a fifth of all carbon emissions in the country, and sustainable construction has gained urgency in recent years with the government implementing a host of measures including Green Mark certification and grants, to help the industry go clean and green.
Aver Asia, one of the largest rental companies for equipment, has been servicing the construction, infrastructure, marine, offshore, and oil and gas sectors in Southeast Asia for the last 24 years.
Brandon Ng, Co-founder and CEO of Ampd Energy, and Ben Koh, CEO of Aver Asia signed an agreement in Singapore today under which Aver will handle both rental and sales of the Ampd Enertainer in Singapore.
Mr Ng said: “We are delighted to partner with Aver Asia to expand our reach within Singapore. Replacing diesel-powered generators with our battery energy storage system is the quickest and most effective solution to achieving sustainability targets.
“Together with Aver Asia, we will not only be speeding up the decarbonisation of construction, we are also raising productivity and supporting Singapore’s net zero targets.
“With Aver Asia’s proven track record, we are assured that our existing and new customers in Singapore will now have easier access to our unique solution to make their construction clean and quiet.”
Aver’s Mr Koh said: “We are proud to be chosen as the exclusive distributor for the Ampd Enertainer in Singapore. This collaboration underscores a shared commitment to greener practices, benefitting both businesses and the environment.
“Through our extensive network, we hope to raise awareness of the Enertainer and drive down carbon emissions in construction.”
Mr Ng added that Aver Asia was chosen as Ampd Energy’s partner due to its strong reputation in innovation, sustainability and customer service.
Customers can rent or buy the Enertainer, which Ampd Energy said can be operated viably in Singapore without subsidy or grants. Most users, it explained, can enjoy operational cost savings of 10 to 40% by switching.
In June this year, Ampd Energy raised US$8 million in an extension of Series A funding, to support the company’s expansion into overseas markets such as the United Arab Emirates and the United States, while also reinforcing its presence in Australia and the United Kingdom.
Additionally, the funds will be allocated to research and development, further enhancing the firm’s innovative solutions for the construction industry. For more information on Ampd Energy and its Enertainer ESS, go to https://www.ampd.energy .
About Ampd Energy Ampd Energy Limited is a construction technology company that envisions an emission free future for construction. Founded in 2014, Ampd Energy is currently operating in five regions, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, UAE and the UK, and soon to be available in the USA.
To achieve this goal, Ampd Energy pioneered the use of battery energy storage systems (BESS) in urban construction with its flagship product, Enertainer, which is an advanced, compact and connected battery system to replace the dirty, noisy and hazardous diesel generators that power the world's construction. The Enertainer contains up to 27,000 automotive grade battery cells, designed into fire and explosion-proof battery modules driven by high performance power electronics. Features, hardware and software carefully designed for the specific needs of construction sites.
To date, Ampd Energy has deployed over 210+ units of the Enertainer in over 170 construction sites, eliminated 36,400+ tonnes of CO2 (equivalent to the emissions from 15,000 4-room flat household in Singapore*) and removed an equivalent of 66,000 cars worth of air pollution from our city’s streets. Ampd Energy was awarded in Norrsken Impact/100 2023, AEE International Award - Innovative Energy Project of the Year 2022 and shortlisted as a finalist for the Earthshot Prize 2022 in the Clean Our Air category.
